Hybrid-run vehicles run on a combination of electric power and a conventional gasoline engine with a large battery pack to energize an electric motor(s). It is the battery and the high-voltage cables under the passenger compartment connecting it to the motor(s) that is of concern.

These safety concerns come from emergency responders, firefighters and prospective buyers new to the technology. The popularity of these vehicles include Ford, Honda, Lexus, Toyota and Mercury.

Toyota has sold more than 240,000 hybrid vehicles and none have caused injury to rescue personnel according to spokesman Wade Hoyt.
