A Colorado tractor-trailer crashed into part of a concrete pillar on I-70 in the early hours of August 15th, killing both occupants of the rig instantly and burning them so badly that the occupants of the cab were beyond identification.

The tractor-trailer exploded into a fireball so explosive that it covered both sides of the interstate, forcing I-70 to be shut down until debris from the explosion could be cleared from the road. Reports initially indicated that there had been only one fatality in the crash, but another body was subsequently pulled from the debris after the fire had settled down.

Colorado Department of Transportation Workers reportedly were attempting to verify that the pillar was not compromised in any way, in order to allow traffic to resume its course along the 26 ½ Road Bridge.
