Report Shows 40 Million in U.S. Can't Afford Health Care

A federal report released on Monday, December 3rd, states that more than 40 million people in the United States can not afford health care. As a result, these people go without their medication, dental and visual treatments.

Nearly 15 million adults did not obtain eyeglasses, 25 million did not get dental care, 19 million did not get needed prescribed medicine, and 15 million did not get needed medical care due to cost.

The United States health care expenditures totaled $2 trillion in 2005.

Reports also stated that life expectancy rates were up with decreased deaths in heart disease and cancer. However, the death rate for car fatalities has stayed the same since 1990 with 15 deaths per 100,000 people a year.
